We’ve officially hit the ‘Out of office’ response time of year and welcomed in (some) balmy summer evenings – hoorah! Last week, we shared our top podcast recommendations to facilitate some well-needed recharge and inspiration time.
Of course, we have many avid readers amongst the Incite team, too. So it’s only right we share our top four book recommendations. Here’s your second weekly dose of enlightening escapism courtesy of Greg, Allan, Stine and Jack.
Greg recommends…
Day-to-day we’re bombarded with news articles or reports painting the world in an unpleasant light, and it’s easy to attribute this to the age-old adage that humans are inherently selfish. Bregman’s Humankind spins this narrative on its head and by using history, sets out to prove that maybe humans aren’t that bad after all.

A story about a woman climbing the corporate and social ladder, forensically examining her life and the social constructs around her. A short but powerful book to read in one sitting and make you reflect and challenge the stories and structures we live in.

For anyone who, like me, enjoys educating themselves in the context of statistics but is also keen to understand more of how the world has come to look the way it does, I highly recommend this book. For some, a light read during the summer holiday and for others an easy way to understand our world through the lens of numbers. What’s not to like?!
Jack recommends…
Dealing with the themes of family, humanity and survival, The Road tells the story of a father and his young son as they journey across post-apocalyptic America to avoid a harsh incoming winter. If you like strong characterisation and a tense, symbolic story that provides social commentary, then this is for you.
